Health Insurance: It Doesn't Cost Less If It Does Cover Costs

Health Insurance: It Doesn't Cost Less If It Does Cover Costs [ad_1]
Ever since the Affordable Care Act (also known as the ACA, or Obamacare), was passed in 2011, many, in the Republican party, have attempted to eliminate it! In fact, they submitted numerous bills, which were vetoed by President Obama, as a symbolic indication, of their opposition. While common sense would indicate, the legislation could be improved, strengthened, and made better, the attempt has been to repeal, rather than fix and tweek! Since the G.O.P. now controls the Presidency/ White House, Senate, and the House of Representatives, and now - President Trump, ran, with a campaign promise, to replace Obamacare, with something far better and less expensive, one would hope, after 7 years of opposing the A.C.A., they would be prepared with the type of legislation, Trump promised! However, what we have witnessed, instead, both in the legislation, already passed (by a tiny margin) in the House of Representatives, as well as the legislation submitted by McConnell, in the Senate, is something, which does not adequately address these, but rather, creates a tax cut for the very wealthy, while eliminating health insurance for up to, in excess of 20 million people. While the projections have been manipulated to indicate a cost savings to the Federal Government, this has been done, by extreme cuts to Medicaid, increasing costs to people between 60 - 65. and creating hardships, for the millions, with pre - existing conditions. This article will examine, briefly, what I refer to as the 5 Lies, or things this proposed legislation actually does.

  1. Take healthiest out of the pool: Since insurance is based on actuarial tables, common sense, should, tell us, if the youngest, healthiest people, can buy lesser policies, the other insurance pool, will be higher risk! How does that make sense?

  2. Pre - existing conditions: If insurers can charge higher rates to those with pre - existing conditions, don't you believe, they will? How many Americans will be ill - served, by this type of change?

  3. Co - payments: If the amount of co - payment, required, increases, the insurance premium, might decrease, but, the reality is, the overall cost of health care, when needed, rises, often, significantly! Look back to what existed prior to 2011, and you will realize, the argument, which states, the market will be stabilized by Supply and Demand, do not understand how the health care industry works!

  4. Coverage (what's covered): The more exclusions, obviously, the lower the premium. That sounds great, until you need to use the insurance!

  5. Simply, change, or change, for the better?: Is the attempt of these proposals, improving this system, or merely, playing politics? How do any of these proposals, lower the true cost of medical care, improve health care, or better serve the American people?

While we all realize, politicians, often, make unsubstantiated claims (or, simply, tell lies), why do so many believe them? When polls indicate less than 20% of the American people support these changes, and would prefer tweeking and improving, to repealing and replacing, this doesn't make sense, especially common sense?
