If you are anything like I am, you are pretty receptant to let go of the reigns when it comes to your own business. You've got your strategies down, and you're not confident that someone else could take over the tasks in a way you'd be satisfied with. It's taken me months to learn to art of delegation. Delegating tasks is not fun, if you do not already have a few key people you turn to for this and that. You may be wondering about pricing, time, and so on. In reality, not only rich people have personal assistants ... it's small business owners and start-up venturers alike. Let me tell you how and why YOU need to delegate ...
Once your business starts taking off, there's really no turning back. Especially if you've got all of your bases covered .... lawyers, accountants, .. etc. You are good to go. Once things get chaotic, many times .. business owners will simply start to work more hours and take on these extra tasks as they arise. This is BAD, and I advise all of my clients to stay clear of this trap. If you are trying to juggle a crazy amount of tasks as a one-man show ... I would recommend you take a step back and imagine how much time is wasted just being stressed. I feel this is one of the top reasons businesses fail. Business owners are a particular type. We like things done a certain way, and that's it. Sometimes, it's hard to imagine just letting go of certain things .. especially if you've been doing them a certain way from the very start.
The importance of delegating is paramount. The importance of delegating to the correct people is priceless. If there is one thing I have learned it is that the power of "testing" is priceless as well. Once you've got "people" lined up, start delegating .. but do it slowly. Do not overwhelm your new task-doers with tons of work. Introduce menial tasks slowly, and observe how they work. I was lucky in the fact that my assistant is a super-fast worker, and he works with precision. He makes very few errors, and can be over-achieving at times. Some of the key factors to look for when looking for people to delegate to are:
Follow your intuition when choosing a person to delegate your tasks to, because this person will often be entrusted with personal information about your business, finances, marketing strategies, and other trade secrets. Never understimate your staff, because if you've chosen the right people, they should be quick-to-learn and ready to be flexible. Freeing up you own time is the idea here. Why would you want to do that? Well, if you are so wrapped up in the menial tasks of the daily grind, it tends to get so routine, that you can often forget to look at the big picture of your business with clarity. You really should not be sweating the small things. Having people around to delegate tasks to will help you keep a clear mind, and give you the time you need to think up new strategies, and evaluate every detail of your business and how to improve it.
What kind of tasks could you have others do? Sit back and write a list. Keep in mind, your new staff may make mistakes at first .... and it will not be done perfectly .. but this is really a small sacrifice to make keeping yourself less stressed, and to of course free up more time for spending with the family or going over more important things.
Here are some ideas as to what tasks can be outsourced out ... these ideas are mine own, as well as collections of mine.
If even just outsourcing one of these tasks will clear up a few minutes of your day, it will be well worth it. You may be saying now .. "well, I do all of these RIGHT NOW, and I'm, okay!" But really think about it ... if you WERE NOT doing these small things ... imagine the kind of focus and attention you could put back into the core of your business! You could re-evaluate your marketing ... come up with new ideas, and set more goals and game plans for the future!

Some of the key factors to look for when looking for people to delegate to are:
- The ability to think ahead of time
- Can they adapt to your schedule easily?
- Are they quick to ask you "what next" or do they learn the routine and become self-reliant?
- How do you rate their level of professionalism?
- Can they learn quickly?
- Do they have a sense of urgency?
- and of course .. do you get along with them?

Here are some ideas as to what tasks can be outsourced out ... these ideas are mine own, as well as collections of mine.
- Phone Calls and Appointment Making
