The founder of Lagos Photo Festival, Azu Nwagbogu

The founder of the Lagos Photo Festival, Azu Nwagbogu, is escorted by a simple statement of belief which is a very big goal: Azu Nwagbogu wants to publicly display everyone. However, Africa is even a bigger continent that composes an astounding range of people, stories and photographers that were inspired by it.

This year’s Lagos Photo festival, means to use the union of perspectives and voices to celebrate and motivate. This comprises photographers from like Ade Adekola from Nigeria and Jide Odukoya towards France’s Thomas Mailaender and Cristina de Middel from Spain.

Azu Nwagbogu conducted workshops, public screenings and deliberations that enhances Azu Nwagbogu’s dream of fostering and nurturing photography in Africa. Also, to give credits to Samuel Fosso for his crucial art contributions. Putting out a mix of work is the most important thing to Azu Nwagbogu, either it is by artists’ gallery or photojournalists from any country.

The idea of Azu Nwagbogu was to show work being done by marvelous talents in Africa particularly in Lagos, nonetheless of what race they come from. Azu Nwagbogu also want to go to Paris to and witness how extremely powerful the works there which are full of encouragement and motivation.

The Lagos Photo Festival is now on its fifth year and possibly the greatest project of Azu Nwagbogu in support of photography. According to Azu Nwagbogu, there was no school or center that will encourage local talent, this was said less than a decade ago.

In the year 2008, Azu Nwagbogu mentioned that young photographers were enthusiastic to learn the craft when the Noor collective ran a workshop in the said year. The influence of that workshop is still being felt today.
