Our client is a world leader in cellular material technology.

Using a unique manufacturing process with environmentally friendly nitrogen expansion, our client produces lightweight foams in Croydon (UK) and Kentucky (US) that are used widely in many applications including aircraft, the automotive industry and leading sportswear brands. At their main Croydon manufacturing site after 12 million pound investment to increase capacity.

ROLE:

They are currently looking for a Purchasing Officer with a bias and recent experience in construction/engineering projects and tendering process to support the purchasing and procurement processes and the engineering team in all aspects throughout the selection, tender, award, expediting and sign off processes for Construction, Capital Plant and Equipment Projects to company procedures and best practice.

This role will help support the existing purchasing team on this new capital project.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

a) To identify, award and implement best practice tendering process (where appropriate) and contractual standard terms and conditions in all activities.
b) To expedite and coordinate with project engineers throughout to ensure time lines are achieved and/or risks of non-achievement are proactively identified and communicated.
c) Exploit and report negotiated benefits from applied purchasing skills / leveraged opportunities and risk mitigation beyond initial contract award for example spares package, warranty extensions, staged payments, performance metrics, credit terms etc.
d) Manage all aspects of purchasing input for Projects from start (contract
reviews) to finish (contract sign-off) and performance management and document all agreed variations.
e) Prepare Engineers and lead at Contracts Committee / Quarterly Contracts Review for Capital Engineering Projects and support Purchasing Contracts/Services (Lead) and Purchasing Consumables (Lead) colleagues as may be required, deputising for either at Company meetings.
f) Ensure all documented purchasing procedures are followed and where necessary updated to reflect best practice.
g) To work closely with company engineers, understand scope of projects to identify risks that may have been underplayed or over-looked and lead in their training in commercial skills.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:

a) Purchasing experience.
b) Recent and relevant experience specific to Construction / Capital Engineering Projects and Tendering process
c) Educated to A level or equivalent.
d) Good communicator, both written and oral.
e) Ability to consult with stakeholders, suppliers and internal customers.
f) Well organised and methodical, flexible and able to prioritise.
g) Good presentation and report writing skills.
h) Analytical, ability to think laterally and work both in a team and isolation.
i) Strong computer skills including MS Office packages and ERP systems.
j) Unrestricted rights to work in the UK.

DESIRABLE SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:

a) Purchasing related higher education such as Business Studies/CIPS qualification
b) Experience of working in a construction/engineering environment

LOCATION AND TRAVEL

Our client is based on the A236 between Mitcham and Croydon. It is served by regular bus and tram services connecting to Wimbledon, Croydon, East Croydon, Morden, Mitcham Junction, Tooting and Tooting Broadway.
